Grant Amount: $11,000
Awarded Date: January 19, 2015
Strengthening Ploughshare Tortoise (Astrochelys yniphora) Protection and Local Economies in Baly Bay National Park, Madagascar
Our objective is to prevent poaching by offering economic alternatives, supporting local monitoring and radio tracking of tortoises, and raising awareness for tortoise conservation. We also need to improve our understanding of the relationship of stress and reproductive biology, constantly be aware of the number of tortoises in the wild, and mark all tortoises to decrease the value in the trade. We must create meaningful measures of the impact of our work on tortoise conservation.
