Assessing Status, Distribution and Conservation Threats to Endangered Oryx beisa in the Last Remaining Habitat in the Lake Natron, Tanzania

The objectives of this study are: (i) To establish the current population status and spatial distribution of Oryx beisa. The Beisa Oryx has most recently been assessed for The IUCN Red List of threatened Species in 2018 and listed as Endangered under criteria A2bd, However, in Tanzania for more than 14 years there has been no updated information on whether the population of Oryx beisa is increasing or decreasing. Therefore, in order to get the current population status of this endangered species, it’s extremely important to assess their population status and habitat condition so that to come up with the current data to update local conservation authorities and IUCN databases for informing direction of conservation efforts,(ii) Assessing Oryx beisa ecological habitat condition in the Lake Natron Landscape (iii) To train communities on diversification of income-generating activities including tree nursery and beekeeping small projects. The villagers will raise and plant tree seedlings in their own farms to conserve soil erosion while honey produced from beekeeping will be sold due to high demand of honey in Tanzania and East Africa and (iv) To provide of conservation education to the local communities to reduce pressure to lake
