Ecology and conservation status of the endangered Aloe adigratana Reynolds in the ecologically fragile dry Afromontane areas of horn Africa

The overall all objective of this project is to assess the ecological and conservation status of Aloe adigratana and develop long-term conservation plan with the help of local communities and other stakeholders. To address the main objective, the following specific objectives are pursued. 1. To assess the current conservation status and conservation gap of Aloe adigratana by collecting data on the plant and its ecology, distribution, population structure, health status, threats and future conservation interventions and local ethnobotanical knowledge from local community and field survey. 2. To develop habitat suitability map using geospatial technologies (ArcGIS, R studio, SDM models) for in situ and ex situ conservation and reintroduction 3. To document traditional knowledge associated with Aloe adigratana conservation and utilisation 4. To develop a comprehensive strategy and action plan for Aloe adigratana in situ and ex situ conservation. 5. To raise the awareness and capacity of local communities and other relevant stakeholders through environmental education and consultative workshops 6. To establish across border links (among east African countries conservationist and ecologists working on aloes)
