An Effort in Conserving Endemic Mentawai Langur by ecological approuch

Mentawai is one of the unique large  island in indonesia who has a many biodiversity and have a higher endemic animals. 500.000 year a go mentawai is a part of sumatra, but after the melting ice  mentawai separate with Sumatra.  Because of this fenomena this island is not united. There are four major island in mentawai island sterched out in samudra hindia are, Siberut, Sipora, North pagai and South Pagai. Isolation of mentawai in continent sumatra since Pleistocene era that produce some endemic flora and fauna.

One of the biggest island in mentawai is Siberut. Siberut has the higher endemic animals  than three of the other island in mentawai. At least 65 % mammal in siberut is endemic, from 27 species that has been found. All of the primate in this island is endemic. Because of the isolation island make this primate endemic. There are four endemic primata in mentawai, presbytis potenziani, hylobates klosii, simias concolor, and macaca siberu. One of them have an unique characteistic and the beautiful one in mentawai. In mentawai they call it joja in the latin name is Presbytis potenziani.

Mentawai langur (Presbytis potenziani) is an endemic leaf eating monkey in mentawai. Its considered Endangered  on the IUCN Red List. Mentawai langur is one of the primate who has a beautiful color. They lived in the primary forest and we can found it in the secondary forest. Joja has patterns of live like primitif primates, they are live with the monagamus system one of family has 8. The method that we used in this research is survey method with transect line. We made 13 transect for this research. With ecological approuch we can learn and know the distribution, population and assosiation of habitat Presbythis potenziani. To conserve them from the bad situation that will happen at the past or at the present. We can ready from now on to conserve them.
