Overall objective: Providing freshwater biodiversity data for effective biodiversity conservation management by close collaboration between biodiversity scientists from SGN and conservation practitioners from African Parks.

1) Providing a baseline survey of freshwater taxa present in Akagera NP, Rwanda.

2) Setting up a monitoring program for selected freshwater taxa to be carried out by African Parks staff.

3) Developing conservation measures for threatened freshwater taxa and monitoring success of this measures.

4) Following up with the monitoring by African Parks over the next years, analysing the data and preparing scientific publications
