Mohamed bin Zayed Species project number 150512092
FIRST CONSERVATION EFFORTS FOR PROTECTION OF ENDANGERED UNIQUE PARTHENOGENETIC SPECIES DAREVSKIA ROSTOMBEKOVI IN ARMENIA
The main objectives of current pilot project are to launch conservation actions and begin monitoring program for endangered species Darevskia rostombekovi. The project has following aims: 1. Create a dataset and maps of past, current and future distribution patterns of D. rostombekovi holding the baseline data for monitoring. Particularly our aim will be: (a) estimating suitable habitats for species through the analysis of the relationship among the environmental variables (that are expected to affect the species’ physiology and probability of persistence) and known species’ occurrence records. (b) detecting climatic exigencies of D. rostombekovi in Armenia; (c) predicting the D. rostombekovi potential distribution; (d) identifying the most vulnerable populations of the species. 2. Estimate the current population density of lizards 3. Identify the major threats and to propose mitigating measures and conservation actions to address them. 4. Preparation recommendation for protection of this species and submitting them to concerned organizations. 5. Dissemination of obtained information through scientific forums, conference. Publication of scientific article. Preparing and giving an open lecture for students of Yerevan State University about conservation efforts for rare lizards.
