The rare leaf-frogs: threats and conservation of Phrynomedusa dryade
The main goal of this project is trying to search for the target species (P. dryade) in its type locality, and also to find unknown populations in adjacent suitable areas, to evaluate threats, and to promote actions to conservation in situ of this species. I will try to estimate the abundance of specimens; to obtain information about his natural history (e.g., reproductive behaviour); and to obtain key material (molecular, morphological, and acoustic data) that could be useful for species conservation. As an additional goal, I propose to conduct surveys in nearby localities where the other rare species of the genus Phrynomedusa were registered for the last time. The other species of the genus are considered “extinct” (P. fimbriata), “near threatened” (P. appendiculata), “least concern” (P. marginata) and ”data deficient” (P. vanzolinii and P. bokermanni).
