Mohamed bin Zayed Species project number 232532246
Population survey, molecular characterization and ex situ conservation of the endangered South American edible fungal species Rickiella edulis

- Find in nature populations of Rickiella edulis, with efforts in Brazil (State of São Paulo, where it was recently discovered) and Paraguay (type locality);
- Isolate the specimens to obtain pure culture and promote ex situ conservation;
- Conduct molecular studies to characterize the Brazilian and Paraguayan populations (if found in Paraguay);
- Reevaluate, if necessary, the species status in the IUCN Red List;
- Publish main findings in scientific articles;
- Promote actions (in Brazil and Paraguay) to call the public attention to this fungal species (Science outreach).
