Beck's Petrel: finding the first breeding site of a Critically Endangered seabird. "Lost" for over 75 years it's now 12 years since the rediscovery of Beck's Petrel, but it's breeding grounds remain unknown. Facing potential threats from invasive species at its colonies our priority is finding a nest site by working with local communities and researchers in New Ireland, Papua New Guinea.

Bristol Zoological Society is leading a vital project to save the Critically Endangered Negros bleeding-heart dove (Gallicolumba keayi), a species endemic to Negros and Panay island in the Philippines. Habitat loss and poaching are responsible for the decline of this elusive species. The population survey and threats mapping of the area will be critical to create a Conservation Action Plan and implement evidence-based conservation actions.

The Masafuera Rayadito, globally listed as Critically Endangered, is endemic to a single island, Isla Alejandro Selkirk, Chile. The loss of critical breeding habitat and predation by invasive cats and rodents are responsible for the alarming decline of this species. To address these threats, we developed and improved our programs of artificial nesting boxes and invasive plant control with local community support.

The Madagascar Pochard is Critically Endangered – just 25 birds survive at one small site. To ensure its survival in the wild, we are establishing a new population at Lake Sofia, a remote lake in the northern highlands that is central to the lives of 12,000 local villagers. Pilot releases will help prove and refine the novel and innovative methods needed for this challenging site.
